About

Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Thelma, I have lived in the Pacific North West on the south end of Vancouver Island for 20 years and I’m intrigued with gardening!

My husband and I moved here to study Horticulture, well… he was enrolled in the course, I was working, but, being so fascinated by the subject, studied with him as much as I could and obtained my pesticide certificate. We started our own business, ok, he really did, I worked on & off with him, in between my own career and other courses, that I was pursuing. Now I have acquired a Diploma in Interior Design.

I was and still am fascinated by all of the different plants that grow here. In this mild temperate zone you can garden all year, my garden became my own personal experiment, constantly changing and learning what will grow, make the garden pretty and colorful. My focus has changed recently to growing vegetables, for so many differnt reasons. I’ve always dabbled and had 3 raised beds full of some herbs & veggies, we’ve added on a few more with 10 now.

Our garden isn’t huge we have a smaller town lot, we do have a sunny south-facing area for veggies and a greenhouse. With our milder climate and the ability to grow year round it makes sense to take advantage of this, so my new challenge and experiment is underway..

  1. I just found you. We are both on south Van Island. I’m in Sidney, would you mind telling me which city you are in. I’m not sure, but I think we have the exact same greenhouse as well.

    1. Hi Erin, I’m in Sidney also! How long have you had your greenhouse? This is my second year using it! Do you have your own blog, Organic gardening in Sidney? If so I love it and have been following it for a few months now 🙂

    1. We are fortunate to have a longer growing season! Thank-you for stopping by Shanna and I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I love the name of your blog, I’ll be sure to pop in and have a look!
